Lady and Her Five Suitors

           

    This story is one of the Arabian literary pieces which relates to the real world of human existence. in a world that is full of oppressed and oppressors as well as played and players according to the view of mimetic approach. the first part of the story contains the main character and her marriage life. After her husband has gone for so long for a business travel she fell in love and have some affairs with some of  the young men around her. Time came, one of her lovers had been imprisoned. She did everything she could do just to have him back. She'd been talked and judged by the people around her that knows her immoral deeds. Despite of all the accusation to her, she planned and did everything just to get in touch with the men around her. She went to the carpenter and ask him to build a human-sized cabinet that could fit 5 men which admire her. She put the 5 suitors inside the cabinet made the carpenter for her to pick one lover each time she wanted it. That day when she picked one of her lover inside the cabinet, the carpenter accidentally locked himself inside the cabinet because of their dispute of the beautiful lady. they are left overnight in the cabinet, until the neighbors came and saw them wearing fancy clothes. 

                  This story is all about the wants and desires of a person towards another person. It talks more about adultery, immorality and lustful intentions. It depicts unfaithful relationships and reflects the society we have today. There are many cases in which women tend to engage on having affair with another person even if she is committed with someone else. There are also other person tends to do everything just to satisfy themselves.

Today we have naming of parts. Yesterday,

We had daily cleaning. And tomorrow morning,

We shall have what to do after firing. But to-day,

Today we have naming of parts. Japonica

Glistens like coral in all of the neighbouring gardens,

And today we have naming of parts.

This is the lower sling swivel. And this

Is the upper sling swivel, whose use you will see,

When you are given your slings. And this is the piling swivel,

Which in your case you have not got. The branches

Hold in the gardens their silent, eloquent gestures,

Which in our case we have not got.

This is the safety-catch, which is always released

With an easy flick of the thumb. And please do not let me

See anyone using his finger. You can do it quite easy

If you have any strength in your thumb. The blossoms

Are fragile and motionless, never letting anyone see

Any of them using their finger.

And this you can see is the bolt. The purpose of this

Is to open the breech, as you see. We can slide it

Rapidly backwards and forwards: we call this

Easing the spring. And rapidly backwards and forwards

The early bees are assaulting and fumbling the flowers:

They call it easing the Spring.

They call it easing the Spring: it is perfectly easy

If you have any strength in your thumb: like the bolt,

And the breech, and the cocking-piece, and the point of balance,

Which in our case we have not got; and the almond-blossom

Silent in all of the gardens and the bees going backwards and forwards,

For today we have naming of parts.

Analysis:

         This poem tells about the naming of the parts of the gun in which it reflects oneself and symbolizes life just like a soldier in a battlefield in which you have to know the part of you- strengths and weaknesses to face such battle. The poem has two characters which is the young boy who is intelligent in the sense that he finds it easy to cope up with the instructions given to him by the instructor and at the same time he is sensitive enough in a way that he really wanted to become a good soldier. The poem has two juxtaposition voices, the first is when the instructor is giving a lecture about the parts of the rifle and the second one, which can be seen in the 4th line of the stanza, is when the young boy daydream and wonder about the things that are arbitrary to his imaginations and the things that seems different to what his instructor tells about to him. His instructor tells about the parts of a rifle while he imagines it on a more sexual activity.

Analysis:

         The poem tells about a man who has this crave and desire to a woman. The woman had then lost her innocence not because of her own destruction but of the man's intention. She also gave her all after the pleasure that they've enjoyed not knowing that the man only took her for granted because of his intention-not about love, but lust. The story happened one stormy night when the man invade the woman's territory and after giving her virginity to the man, she was desperate enough knowing the man's intention (dark secret love). The characters in the story which is the rose and the invisible worm represents the virgin and innocent woman and the pretentious man who had this bad intention. The "worm" in the poem had found out the pleasure (crimson joy) after invading the woman's territory (crimson bed). The poem is more on sex, violence, love, and lust intentions.
